Keep winter’s drying effect at bay with these simple tips and help from your Las Vegas hair salon

Why does my hair seem so dry is a logical question to be asking yourself this time of year. The air in the desert southwest is already among the driest in the world. Add to that the cold of winter, which tends to be drier than warmer temps, and your hair doesn’t stand a chance without help. So if you are noticing more hairs in your brush or on your pillow when you wake up, you’re not imagining things.

Simple things can make a huge difference when combating the drying actions of cold winter weather. The most obvious is to towel dry your hair instead of using the hair dryer. There’s a reason that blown dry hair is called the dry look; it literally it since moisture has been stripped from the follicles. If you absolutely can’t live without your hair dryer, than invest in a good leave in conditioner.

At the same time, don’t leave the house with your hair wet, and especially don’t comb or brush your hair while it’s still wet. This is when it’s most vulnerable to damage. Also you may want to consider cutting back on the straightener or flat iron, as these can suck the moisture right out of your hair.

Finally, use deep cleansing or harsh shampoos sparingly or even put them away until warmer weather comes around. The winters in Vegas are short, and you can go without a deep cleanse for a couple months without any issue. But, double up on conditioner use. Consider rubbing a conditioner on the ends after you towel dry to prevent the ends from splitting and things getting all frizzy.

And of course, if all else fails despite your best efforts, come see us at the salon. Maybe you need a different conditioner, and we can always trim off those split ends.
